| Crossectomy and Stripping
Overview
Surgery has been the standard of care for varicose vein disease for more than 50 years. It has been one of the commonest elective general surgical procedures performed, and the procedure has become standardised. Randomised trials have confirmed that routine GSV stripping improves results and reduces the rate of reoperation and improves the healing of ulcers. The procedure is still today a very good and effective procedure. The introduction of pin stripping and tumescent anaesthesia has made it competiitve again to endovenous procedures.
